Overview

Punakha, a district in Bhutan, is a beautiful and fertile valley at an elevation of 1200m, surrounded by stunning views of the Himalayas. It is known for its excellent terrain for rice cultivation, thanks to the convergence of two rivers - Po Chhu and Mo Chhu. The place can be reached within 3 hours from Thimphu and is warmer than other nearby places. With plenty of slopes, Punakha is ideal for trekking and mountain biking. In addition, the Po Chhu River offers an exciting river rafting experience. The second oldest dzong of Bhutan, the Punakha Dzong, is located here and is an architectural marvel.

Itinerary

Day 1

Arrive at Paro airport and transfer to the hotel in Thimpu.
Arrive in Thimpu and check in to the hotel.
Spend the day at leisure exploring nearby with hiring rentals. (byself)
Overnight stay in Thimpu

Day 2

After breakfast, head out on the sightseeing of Thimpu.
Visit Memorial Chorten, Mothinthang zoo, and Viewpoint.
Return to the hotel.
Overnight stay at hotel.

Day 3

After breakfast, check out from the hotel and transfer to Punakha.
Reach Punakha and check in to the hotel.
Later, visit Punakha Dzong.
Return to the hotel and overnight stay.

Day 4

After breakfast, check out from the hotel and leave for Phobjika.
Arrive at Phobjika and check in to the hotel.
Later, proceed to visit Gangtey Goemba in Phobjika.
Return to the hotel.
Overnight stay in hotel.

Day 5

After breakfast, check out and transfer to Paro.
Visit the historic ruins of the Drukgyal Dzong.
Later, Go shopping at Paro’s main street features shops crammed with brasswares, silk and cotton scarves, etc.
Return to the hotel.
Overnight stay at Paro.

Day 6

Post breakfast, go for a day hike to the viewpoint of Taktsang monastery.
Visit the ruined fortress of Drugyel Dzong nearby.
Overnight stay at hotel.

Day 7

After breakfast, check out from the hotel.
Depart to the airport to board the flight.
